KENSINGTON PALACE
Kensington Palace, nestled in the heart of London, stands as a historic royal residence with a rich heritage dating back to the 17th century. The palace, surrounded by enchanting gardens, has served as a home for numerous members of the British royal family. One of its most notable features is the captivating collection of jewels housed within its walls, showcasing the opulence and grandeur associated with the monarchy. Among these treasures, the dazzling gems worn by Princess Diana hold a special place in history. Diana, known for her timeless elegance and grace, often adorned herself with exquisite jewels, some of which are displayed at Kensington Palace. Perhaps one of the most iconic pieces is her wedding dress, a symbol of romance and regality. Diana's wedding gown, with its intricate lace and voluminous silhouette, remains an enduring symbol of a fairy-tale wedding and is part of the rich tapestry of Kensington Palace's royal legacy.
The Princess Diana Memorial at Kensington Gardens has become a cherished place for admirers to pay their respects to the iconic princess, commemorating her enduring legacy and the enduring impact she had on the world. The memorial stands a tribute to the beloved "People's Princess"
As I strolled through Kensington Gardens, I paid a heartfelt visit to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial. Diana's death hit close to home for me because we were around the same age. It made me think about how fragile life is and how important it is to cherish each moment. It's a reminder that no one is immune to the uncertainties of life, making her passing especially poignant.
WINDSOR PALACE
Windsor Palace, also known as Windsor Castle, is an iconic royal residence situated in the county of Berkshire, England. Windsor Palace is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. The castle has served as a royal residence for successive monarchs, making it a symbol of continuity and tradition within the British monarchy. The castle's stunning architecture reflects a blend of medieval and modern styles, with highlights such as the impressive Round Tower and the lavish State Apartments. Nestled in the picturesque town of Windsor, the palace is not only a working royal residence but also a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich heritage of the British royal family.
Wandering the grounds of Windsor Castle demands a trusty umbrella, where unpredictable British weather can surprise at any moment. A good quality umbrella becomes not just a shield from rain, but a regal accessory, standing resilient against both drizzles and sudden gusts, ensuring your visit remains dry and delightful amidst the historical splendor.
When the Queen is in residence at Windsor Castle, a specific flag known as the Royal Standard is flown to indicate her presence. The Royal Standard is the official flag of the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom, and it is used to represent the personal presence of the Queen.
I didn't get to see her when I was there, even though the Royal Standard flag was flown. But not to worry I had tea with her at Madame Tussauds. More about that later.

LONDON BRIDGE
London Bridge stands majestically, connecting the city's diverse neighborhoods.
As I strolled along the iconic London Bridge on a crisp winter morning, the chilly breeze cut through the air, reminding me of the quintessential British weather.
Determined to make the most of my stroll, I wrapped myself in the luxurious warmth of a cashmere shawl, its soft fibers providing a cocoon of comfort against the brisk wind.
The London Bridge, with its rich history and breathtaking views of the river Thames, was a bustling hub of activity. The rhythmic sound of footsteps echoed on the bridge's cobblestone pathway as people from all walks of life hurried to their destinations. The timeless architecture of the bridge, adorned with majestic stone arches and ornate details, stood as a testament to the city's enduring charm.
Side note - one of the famous tourist attractions in London is Big Ben. Unfortunately, it was under construction, so we were not able to see it.
To add a touch of adventure to our trip, we embarked on a Thames River Boat Experience.
We had a so much fun on that Thames River speed boat! Despite the boat's speedy nature, it turned out to be an absolute delight. Thankfully we thought ahead to bring a hat and gloves because it got really cold on the boat. The scenic views along the river added an extra touch of magic to the experience. I never expected such sheer fun from a speed boat, and it turned out to be an unforgettable adventure with the most breathtaking sights!
TOWER OF LONDON
The Tower of London, a historic fortress on the banks of the river Thames, stands as an iconic symbol of England's rich past. Within its ancient walls lies a treasure trove of history, including the renowned Crown Jewels. Displayed in the Jewel House, these priceless gems and regal artifacts narrate centuries of royal tradition and ceremonies. From the dazzling Imperial State Crown to the majestic Sovereign's Scepter, each piece in the collection holds a unique story, offering visitors a glimpse into the opulence and grandeur of the British monarchy. The Tower of London and its Crown Jewels continue to captivate and awe, preserving a tangible link to the nation's royal heritage.
The Tower of London is so rich in history and significance that I've decided to dedicate an entire separate blog post to it.
Another thing I always do while travelling is keep a journal. Keeping a travel journal while traveling is beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it serves as a personal record, capturing the unique experiences, emotions, and details of each journey. This written account becomes a cherished memento, allowing you to relive the moments long after the trip has ended. It becomes a creative outlet, encouraging writing skills and the expression of ideas. Moreover, a detailed travel journal can be a valuable resource for future trips, offering insights, recommendations, and a roadmap of memorable places. Overall, the act of documenting one's travels enhances the overall travel experience and creates a lasting connection to the places explored.
HOP ON - HOP OFF BUS TOUR
The Hop-On Hop-Off Bus was the was one of the best ideas I had. We were able to see so much of London while listening to a really funny and entertaining tour guide.
Perching on the top level of a double-decker bus is my royal balcony moment in the city. Up there, I'm not just a passenger; I'm a majestic ruler surveying my urban kingdom. As the wind tousles my hair in a regal dance, I can't help but feel like a monarch of the metropolis. Just remember, fellow subjects on the sidewalk, the queen of the double-decker realm is passing by – wave or bow accordingly!

BUCKINGHAM PALACE & THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD
Visiting Buckingham Palace is an enchanting experience that immerses you in the grandeur of British royalty. As you approach the iconic gates, the regal facade and Changing of the Guard ceremony create a spectacle that embodies centuries of tradition. The vastness of the palace grounds and the opulent State Rooms offer a glimpse into the monarch's lifestyle. From the pristine gardens to the symbolic balcony where historic moments unfold, Buckingham Palace stands as a symbol of British heritage, inviting visitors to bask in the splendor of its majestic surroundings.
I did some research before travelling to London and found the Fun London Tours. This was by far one of the best tours I have ever been on. Our tour guide was funny and entertained us with some lesser-known facts about the royals. Rather than standing still for hours at the gate of the palace, we saw various stages of the ceremony, including the inspection, Old Guard, New Guard, Palaces, and even marched alongside the Guards and Ceremonial Bands! That was a highlight for us!
HARRODS
Harrods, the legendary department store in the heart of London, is a shopping haven that transcends the ordinary. Stepping into its opulent halls is like entering a world where luxury knows no bounds. From its iconic green and gold façade to the exquisite interior adorned with ornate decor, Harrods is a true emblem of indulgence. Housing an unparalleled selection of designer fashion, gourmet delights, and exclusive merchandise, the store offers a sensory feast for those seeking the epitome of elegance. The Egyptian-themed escalators and the renowned Food Halls are just a glimpse of the extravagant experience that Harrods provides, making every visit a journey into a realm where sophistication and grandeur converge.
This place is so much fun to visit. They have absolutely everything you can imagine, and it is so beautiful. I ended buying myself pens as souvenirs (with a crown on top) and a really nice bag.

MADAME TUSSAUDS WAX MUSEUM
Madame Tussauds Museum offers a fascinating encounter with lifelike wax figures of celebrities, historical figures, and even the royal family. I enjoyed strolling through the museum, posing for photos with my favorite personalities and creating memories that blur the lines between reality and wax.
My husband and I had a blast! We got the best pictures. He even posed for one with the Beatles on Abbey Lane. I, of course, got a picture having tea with the Queen. (As you can tell I am a Royal Fan)
SHERLOCK HOLMES MUSEUM
For a dose of literary nostalgia, we stepped into the world of Sherlock Holmes at 221B Baker Street. The detective's fictional home is brought to life, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the tales of mystery and intrigue.
The gift shop at the Sherlock Holmes Museum had the best gifts for our grandsons. They had the coolest detective hats, magnifying glasses and best of all detective novels.
THE BEATLES STORE
Going to the Beatles Store takes was like taking a musical journey through time. Surrounded by memorabilia and iconic images, I reminisced about the era-defining music of the Fab Four, creating a connection between generations.
ABBEY LANE
We asked our bus driver to stop by Abbey Lane so that we could recreate the iconic Beatles album cover. The zebra crossing was an homage to the legendary band.
What can I say, for me half the fun of the trip is taking the pictures. Honestly, that's how I remember everything.
THE WARNER BROTHERS MAKING OF HARRY POTTER
Stepping into the magical world of Hogwarts, we were transported to a realm of wizardry and wonder. From exploring Diagon Alley to witnessing the intricacies of film production, we discovered the enchantment that captivated audiences worldwide.
I admit I did take a picture by Platform 9-3/4.
THE LONDON EYE
As the sun sets over the Thames, our London adventure reaches its pinnacle with a ride on The London Eye. The panoramic views from the observation wheel offer a breathtaking spectacle of the city's illuminated skyline. It's a moment of reflection and gratitude for the rich tapestry of experiences woven throughout her journey.
We went on The London Eye in the evening, and we were in for a real treat. It goes slowly so we had more than enough time to really get a good view of the city with everything lit up. It was exciting to see all the places that we had spent the past few days from such a height.
