International Flights: What to Do on a long flight to keep yourself occupied

lady sitting on an airplane reading

  1. Read a Book: Bring along that book you've been dying to read but never had the time for. Lose yourself in its pages and forget about the fact that you're hurtling through the air in a metal tube thousands of feet above ground. I always like to get the latest fashion magazine in the airport.

  2. Listen to Music or Podcasts: Create a playlist of your favorite tunes or download podcasts that pique your interest. Let the soothing sounds drown out the hum of the engines and transport you to a world of your choosing. Experience relaxation on another level with this sleep mask equipped with Bluetooth headphones. Enjoy your favorite tunes while drifting off to sleep for a peaceful journey. Before I go on any long plane ride, I download music for both the airplane ride and any bus rides that we have on our trip.

  3. Watch Movies or TV Shows: Load up your device with movies or binge-watch your favorite TV series. Whether it's a classic film or the latest blockbuster, let the in-flight entertainment be your ticket to escapism. Make the most of your flight with the airplane pocket – a clever companion that not only keeps your essentials organized but also serves as a convenient table tray cover, ensuring a tidy and hygienic journey.

  4. Play Games: Bring along some travel-friendly games like Sudoku, cards, crossword puzzles, or word searches to keep your brain engaged during the long flight. Or challenge your seatmate to a friendly game of travel sized Connect Four or Battleship.

  5. Journaling or Drawing: Take advantage of the uninterrupted time to jot down your thoughts in a journal or sketch the breathtaking views from your window seat. Who knows, you might discover your inner Picasso at 35,000 feet! I also suggest keeping a journal while traveling to jot down all the places you are visiting and your impressions. When you see your pictures later and want to make a photobook (discussed on another blog) this is a great point of reference.

  6. Take Photos: Capture the awe-inspiring sights from your window seat as you soar over oceans, mountains, and cities below. It's not every day you get to witness the world from such a unique vantage point.

  7. Engage in Conversations: Strike up conversations with your fellow passengers and exchange travel stories, recommendations, and tips for making the most of your destination. You never know who you might meet on your journey! We always do this, if the other person is interested and willing, it makes the time fly by.

  8. Plan Your Itinerary: Use the flight time to plan out your itinerary for your international adventure. Research activities, restaurants, and attractions at your destination, and get ready to hit the ground running when you land. I also like to start planning my next trip ....

  9. Stretch and Move Around: Enhance your in-flight relaxation with the airplane footrest, but don't forget the importance of staying active. Incorporate regular stretches and short walks down the aisle to alleviate discomfort and maintain circulation during those lengthy international flights.

  10. Enjoy the Scenery: If you're lucky enough to snag a window seat, take in the breathtaking views below as you fly over different countries and continents. It's a reminder of just how vast and diverse our world truly is. Enjoy the view from your plane window in comfort with an inflatable pillow featuring a hood. Stay cozy while taking in the scenery on your journey.

  11. Learn a new language: I never tried this, but my friend can't sleep on planes, and she downloaded a language app for the country she was visiting to teach herself some key phrases.

Remember to pack essentials like snacks, water, and any necessary chargers to keep yourself comfortable and entertained throughout the flight. It is very important to have healthy snacks with proteins that will keep you full. And most importantly, sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey – after all, the destination is only half the fun!
